The Downsides of Too Much Playing Online Games
In this era where everything is almost done through computers, it is not surprising anymore that even games have also gone digital or online. Online games are very famous, especially among young ones who now more prefer this kind of game than the traditional games wherein they can be able to interact with fellow children. What is even more surprising nowadays is that children are not the only ones who are hooked with online games. Even adults are spending many hours in the computer and indulging themselves in the world of cyber games. There are pros and cons in this aspect. Accordingly, such occurrence is actually even a cause for such celebration since it connotes how far the world of technology has evolved. Also, people should be grateful that they have experienced this kind of thing in this time because, who knows, in the near future another kind of gaming will emerge. There are negative sides. However, with the presence of these online games if done excessively – as the saying goes, “too much of everything is bad enough.”
The following are the negative effects of too much playing online games:
1. It can destroy relationships. Instead of talking and bonding with loved ones and friends during their free time, it turned out to be that one is just facing the computer and playing online games. Although there is nothing wrong with this especially if you are also playing with your loved ones, but what is adverse here is that when one has no more time spending quality time with friends and family because he/she prefers playing online games instead. This has become one of the topics of arguments among a couple because one is just so hooked with online games that he/she is not giving sufficient time with his/her partner.
2. It can ruin one’s education. Education here means is the academic education wherein one prefers not to attend class because he/she chooses to play online games in the internet cafés or at home. There are already many instances that children skip classes because they got hooked with playing online games, that they prefer doing it rather than attend school or make their assignments and school projects.
3. It promotes an unhealthy lifestyle. Spending more time in front of the computer and just sitting down can cause obesity, especially among children. Although the brain is working at the moment when playing games, we cannot discount the fact that the body is not moving. Online players are so hooked in the game that they forgot to stand-up or do somebody stretching during the entire day. This is also synonymous with being a couch potato.
4. Some online games promote violence. It is not a hidden fact that there are really online games that promote violence, revenge, death, and other aspects of actions that can ignite emotions in a negative way. Even though these are just games, it cannot be prevented that violence will be embedded in the minds of children playing these kinds of games. What is worst is that they might get the impression that it is alright to kill or do revenge.
